The fight against bad passwords is stepping up a level!
Google is now going to alert you if you’re using a password that has been compromised by hackers or leaked as part of a wider data breach. The feature, ‘Password Checkup’, is built into Google’s existing password manager and tells you if your username or password has been compromised in a third party data breach.
The new Chrome extension Password Checkup was launched earlier this year. Google says the extension has been downloaded more than 1 Million times, with nearly half a million users receiving a warning that their passwords were compromised.
Did you know: The top result of most commonly used passwords from 23.2 Million accounts is…. 123456. If this is your password, change it! NOW!
